How e-TRNL Energy came to be
e-TRNL Energy was founded in early 2024, after Apoorv and Rohan spent two years watching the same problem repeat itself across different organisations in India's emerging EV supply chain: pack engineers making critical design decisions - topology, cell mix, charge protocol, warranty claim assumptions - based on models that were either too coarse to be trustworthy or too expensive to iterate quickly.
The specific trigger was a conversation Apoorv had with a battery engineer at a Pune-based two-wheeler startup who had been asked to sign off on the thermal safety margin for a 48V pack going into production in six weeks. His tools were a thermal spreadsheet, a literature survey, and instinct built on three previous pack programmes. There was no budget for destructive testing. There was no time for contract engineering. He needed a tool that could tell him, with quantified uncertainty, whether his design was within safe operating limits.
That conversation defined the product brief. Rohan had already been building the core electrochemical-thermal solver as a research side project; Priya joined from her postdoctoral position at IIT Madras to lead the degradation modelling work. The three of them relocated to Bengaluru's Electronic City in mid-2024 and incorporated e-TRNL Energy in July of that year.
The first version of the platform was validated against bench calorimetry data on INR18650 cells in November 2024. The first paying engineering team used it to qualify a charge protocol for a 3S4P urban delivery pack in February 2025. Since then, we have provisioned workspaces for teams at OEMs, tier-2 component suppliers, and battery pack design consultancies across India.
We are currently a team of seven, with a technical advisory panel drawn from academic electrochemistry and automotive systems engineering. We are based in Bengaluru and do not have plans to relocate.
